Epic at West – The Newest Condo Development to Hit Olympic Village

Volquez to start potential Game 5
Royals RHP Edinson Volquez is still scheduled to start a potential Game 5 of the World Series after flying back to the Dominican Republic to deal with his father’s death, Royals manager Ned Yost said before Game 3 on Friday.
“He’s still slated to pitch Game 5,” Yost said. “He texted [pitching coach] Dave [Eiland] yesterday that everything was going good, and hopes to see him Saturday. We should see Eddie tomorrow. He’ll be ready to go.”
Before Volquez allowed three runs in six innings in Game 1, his 63-year-old father, Daniel, died from heart failure. Volquez said he didn’t find out about his father’s news until after he left the mound, and he flew home to the Dominican Republic after the game.
“My wife was waiting for me with the general manager and they told me what had happened after I finished working,” he said (Oct. 28). “I want to thank my teammates for all their support, to [Johnny] Cueto and Yordano [Ventura], who were the first ones to call me.”
Before Volquez left Kauffman Stadium, he told the Royals he would be ready to pitch in a potential Game 5.
“Last thing Eddie told the guys last night when he left is, ‘I’ll see you in New York,'” Yost said before Game 2.

On the confidence level of the Mets…
Well, we’re still excited. We still have a lot of confidence. After the game you could hear the conversation; we’ve been in tough holes before. We’re used to it. We’re used to playing with adversity, like a lot of Big League clubs. And I thought Michael put it pretty good yesterday when he said, “You’ve got to win four anyway. Start now.”
So we’re not down, we’re positive. We certainly like Noah going tonight. We think he’ll pitch well. We have to start swinging the bats and getting some runs to work.
On Cespedes’ shoulder…
Well, he tells me even though it’s not a hundred percent, he said it doesn’t hurt to swing at all. He said he’s fine. He’s a big part of our order, but I always look at the other team once in a while and again they pitch pretty good. So we’ve got to get everybody going in our lineup.
On starting Conforto in left field…
We met today, coaches got together today and we talked about tonight and Ventura and what we’ve got to do. I’ll tell you what, it was 100 percent, listen, this is the team we won with. This is the team that’s had most success against right-handed pitching; this is the team we should go with. This guy has had very, very good at-bats, and has nothing to show for it. But certainly we can’t put what we’re doing offensively on the shoulders of Michael Conforto. He goes up there and every time he gets in the batter’s box, you think he’s going to hit one in the seats.
The confidence is there from the coaches, and I totally agree with it. Again, if you show panic now, it could spread in the clubhouse, and I’m not going to do that. I like our lineup. I like what they’ve done all year long. You go through ups and downs, but as we’ve seen, when they break out, they’re good. And tonight they need to break out.

Matz will pitch Game 4 — no matter what
LHP Steven Matz will pitch Game 4, no matter what, Terry Collins said on Friday.
“We can’t bring Matt [Harvey] back,” Collins said.
Matz will start Game 4 even if the Mets lose on Friday night and fall in a 3-0 hole to the Kansas City Royals. He did not note if Harvey would be available out of the bullpen.

Tonight’s Pitching Matchup
Noah Syndergaard: Syndergaard was 9-7 with a 3.24 ERA in his rookie year. In three appearances this postseason, he is 1-1 with a 2.77 ERA. His last start came in Game 2 of the NLCS against the Cubs, when he allowed one run over 5 2/3 innings. He has 20 strikeouts in 13 innings pitched this postseason. In 12 starts at home this season, Syndergaard is 7-2 with a 2.46 ERA.
Yordano Ventura: Ventura was 13-8 with a 4.08 ERA in the regular season. In four starts this postseason, he is 0-1 with a 3.98 ERA. Ventura has not gone longer than 5 1/3 innings in any of his four postseason starts. In his most recent outing, Game 6 of the ALCS, Veutura allowed one run over 5 1/3 innings against the Blue Jays. Ventura has a 4.30 ERA in 14 starts on the road this season.
Team Notes
Mets Notes: The Mets will try to become the first team since the Yankees in 1996 to overcome a 0-2 deficit in the World Series. New York is 3-1 at home this postseason. Lucas Duda has had two hits in each of the first two games of the World Series. Daniel Murphy scored the Mets’ only run in Game 2 and has now scored at least one run in 10 of his 11 games this postseason and in each of his last nine. Yoenis Cespedes is the only Mets player who has faced Ventura before. He is a career .143 hitter against him.
Royals Notes: The Royals hold a commanding 2-0 series lead. The last nine teams to win the first two games of the World Series have gone on to win. Teams that have led the World Series 2-0 are 41-10 all-time. Kansas City is 2-3 on the road this postseason, and have lost their first road game played at each venue throughout the playoffs. Alcides Escobar is batting .364 with 12 runs, eight RBIs and seven extra-base hits this postseason.
