New York Mets catcher Anthony Recker and infielder Wilfredo Tovar have cleared waivers and have been outrighted off the Mets 40-man roster (Rubin, Nov. 6).
The Mets 40-man roster now stands at 38, after the addition of LHP Josh Smoker on Thursday (Nov. 5).
Recker, 32, hit .125 in 32 games with the Mets last season. He has served as a backup catcher with the Mets since 2013.
Tovar, 24, hit .287 with Triple-A Last Vegas last season. He suffered a concussion during the end of August that caused him to miss the remainder of the season.
