Jacob deGrom and Noah Syndergaard are motivated by their team’s loss to the Royals in the World Series.
“Losing that game, watching them celebrate on the field like that was heartbreaking,” Syndergaard said in New York on Wednesday, according to the Daily News (Nov. 5, 2015). “It definitely left a hunger in everyone’s minds, to get back there next year and win the whole thing.”
DeGrom and Syndergaard were part of a promotional event at the Buffalo David Britton shop at Macy’s in Manhattan on Thursday.
“Now that we got a taste of it, we want it even more,” deGrom said. “I am really looking forward to getting back after it even more.”
Last winter, Terry Collins, Sandy Alderson and several of their players went on record saying they expected to be a postseason team in 2015.
“Our expectations going into next season should be higher than our expectations were going into this season,” Alderson said Wednesday, after announcing a new two-year contract for Collins. “We had talked about a winning record. We talked about 90 wins. We talked about getting into the playoffs. We made it to the World Series. Going into next season, we’re starting from a different plateau.”
