I’m actually far angrier about Sunday’s loss, and losing the Series, this morning than I was last night after the game, when I was more measured. Again, I’m thankful for what was a fun season. I never expected this while watching the team in St. Lucie in February. It was an amazing ride that I’ll never forget. And, I think that’s why this hurts because I don’t necessarily feel like the Mets got outplayed by the Royals this past week. Instead, the Mets outplayed themselves. They had multiple chances to win this Series, and that makes it more difficult to accept the result.
The fact is the Mets had the opportunity to win more than they lost the previous five games. They had late-game leads in Game 1, 4 and 5, yet lost all three. The Royals deserve credit for taking advantage of mistakes, but it can’t be denied that the Mets repeatedly made those mistakes, not just in the field, but in the dugout as well >> Read more.

There will be a lot of anger and venom spewed over the next few days, despite the most successful Mets season in decades. They did not play great baseball in the World Series. Their fundamental flaws were exposed and the Royals made them pay every single time. But this season was so much more than any Mets fan could have imagined. In March, I thought the team would sniff the playoffs. Maybe have an outside shot at the Wild Card, if they were lucky. They just played — but lost — in the World Series. They came as far as they could without winning it all >> Read more.
