Mets OF Brandon Nimmo and SS Amed Rosario are the organization’s top two position prospects, according to a recently updated list by MLB.com (Nov. 9, 2015).
In the wake of promoting Matt Harvey, Zack Wheeler, Jacob deGrom and Noah Syndergaard the last few years, now just five pitchers rank in the organization’s Top-15 prospects, one of which is Steven Matz – who made his big-league debut this past season – and Marcos Molina, who will miss all of 2016 recovering from Tommy John surgery.
In regards to Nimmo, who ranks as the No. 71 overall prospect in baseball, “His advanced approach at the plate belies his years and his experience,” writes MLB.com editor Jonathan Mayo. “He is extremely patient at the plate. … He’s a solid runner with good instincts and his defense has improved in center field. … He may have seemed like a long-term project when he was drafted, but Nimmo isn’t too far off from helping out in New York’s outfield.”
