Mets are very interested in Ben Zobrist

The Mets are “very interested” in free-agent IF/OF Ben Zobrist and had a conference call with him on Wednesday, Tim Rohan of The New York Times reports (Nov. 18. 2015).

According to Rohan, the 34-year-old Zobrist continues to seek a four-year deal and has drawn interest from roughly 10 teams, most of which are contenders.

It was reported Monday that while the Mets have interest in Zobrist, they might deem him too costly (Nov. 16. 2015).

Industry sources recently said the Yankees feel the same way, according to the New York Post (Nov. 15, 2015).

The Mets, Nationals and Royals have all reached out to Zobrist, who primarily played left field and second base for the A’s and Royals last year (Nov. 15, 2015).

Zobrist hit .276 with a .359 OBP, 13 home runs, 56 RBI and .450 slugging percentage last season, after which he hit .303 in the postseason.
