Zobrist likely too costly for Mets

The Mets may not pursue free agent Ben Zobrist because they feel he would cost too much and is out of their price range, the New York Daily News’ Kristie Ackert reports (Nov. 16).

Zobrist, 34, is expected to seek a three- or four-year deal worth between $12 million to $15 million annually (Nov. 10, 2015).

They reached out to Zobrist’s agent over the weekend, and the Nationals and Royals have also expressed interest in Zobrist, who primarily played left field and second base for the A’s and World Series champion Royals last year (Nov. 15, 2015).

Zobrist hit .276 with 13 home runs and 56 RBIs last season and had a .359 on-base percentage and .450 slugging percentage. He hit .303 with two home runs and six RBIs in the postseason.
