Mets reached out to Zobrist over the weekend

The Mets are among teams that have reached out to Ben Zobrist’s agent, according to the New York Post (Nov. 15, 2015).

Zobrist, 34, is expected to eventually sign a three- to four-year deal, worth between $12-15 million a season (Nov. 10, 2015).

In 126 games last season, the 10-year veteran hit .276 with a .359 OBP, 13 HR, 36 doubles and an .809 OPS, while playing for the A’s and Royals. Zobrist played second and third base and left and right field in 2015. He played mostly second base and shortstop the year before.

This offseason, the Nationals and Royals are the only other teams that have been linked in rumors to Zobrist, who is said to have up to 20 teams interested in signing him, according to updates on MLB Trade Rumors (Nov. 16, 2015).

The Yankees initially had interest, but aren’t willing to spend what it is needed to land him, industry sources to the Post.
