In case you missed it on Wednesday…

The Mets beat the Cubs, 8-3, on Wednesday night to advance to the World Series for the first time since 2000.

In the win at Wrigley Field on Wednesday, Lucas Duda had five RBI and Daniel Murphy homered in an MLB-record sixth straight postseason game. Yoenis Cespedes left the Game in the second inning due to a sore left shoulder, he and but Terry Collins said after the game that Cespedes will be ready to play in the World Series.

Daniel Murphy, who hit .529 with four home runs and six RBI during the NLCS, was named MVP of the series.

Matt Harvey, whose triceps was swollen after getting hit with a line drive during Game 1 of the NLCS, would’ve been ready to start Game 5 of the NLCS had the series continued beyond last night.

Matthew Cerrone: I want to be poignant and poetic. I want to write something special like I did after the Mets won the NL East last month. But, truthfully, I’m speechless. There is a time for analysis and reflection and this is not one of those times. This is a time for a total, unbridled enthusiasm. This is a time to forget about the arguments about finances, forget about injuries, contracts, draft picks, and stats. It’s time to get up, smile, high five friends and scream, “Let’s Go Mets,” so the rest of New York can hear us loud and clear. The Mets are the best team in the National League, they’re going to the World Series, no one saw this coming, no one can take it away from us, and it’s amazing. Have fun, enjoy this, and rest up for what’s going to be an incredible next week and a half…

What’s on tap for the World Series

The Mets  are off until next Tuesday, when they open the World Series in either Kansas City against the Royals or Toronto against the Blue Jays.

The Royals lead the Blue Jays three games to two, with Game 6 set for Friday in Kansas City.
