The Royals will start Johnny Cueto in Game 2 tonight, which is set to begin at 8 pm ET.
Cueto was 7-6 with a 2.36 ERA with the Reds during 19 starts before getting traded to Kansas City in July, after which struggled going 4-7 record with a 4.76 ERA in 13 starts.
In 11 career starts against New York, Cueto has a 4.02 ERA.
Tim Reilly: His results in the postseason have been much like his regular season, some ups and downs. In Game 2 of the ALDS against Houston, he surrendered four runs over six innings. However, in Game 5, Cueto threw a gem, allowing two runs over eight innings in route to closing out the series. Cueto’s roller coaster postseason continued in Game 3 of the ALCS against Toronto. The Blue Jays knocked him out after only two innings after he was roughed up for eight runs. Cueto was purposely lined up to make his starts at home in Game 2 and, if necessary, Game 6. He has struggled in his two career road postseason starts, one of them coming in Toronto in the ALCS. The notorious “Cue-to! Cue-to!” chant that started in Pittsburgh during the 2013 NL-Wild Card Game has followed him, and clearly bothered him while starting on the road.
Matthew Cerrone: In the way I’m glad Jake deGrom is starting for the Mets tonight, I’m kind of glad Cueto will be on the hill for the Royals. The Mets have seen him a bunch from when he was with the Reds, so they’re familiar with him. They’ve had good games and bad games against him. At the same time, he’s been doing an Oliver Perez impersonation the last three months, so I’m rooting for a Bad Cueto night, coupled with some deGrom hustle, to help bury last night’s frustration… Let’s Go METS!
