Baseball America has named LHP Steven Matz as the team’s top prospect (Eddy, Oct. 30).
Matz is followed in order by SS Amed Rosario, 1B Dominic Smith, SS Gavin Cecchini, OF Brandon Nimmo, RHP Marcos Molina, SS/2B Luis Carpio, OF Desmond Lindsay, SS/2B Matt Reynolds and OF Wuilmer Becerra.
“The Mets’ six-year run of seemingly endless rebuilding and poor results ended in dramatic fashion in 2015,” Eddy explained. “New York won 90 games, captured the National League East division title—they outplayed the favored Nationals by nine games in August and September—and defeated the Dodgers and Cubs in the playoffs to capture the NL pennant.”
Matz, 24, went 4-0 with a 2.27 ERA in six starts after making his Major League debut on June 28. In two starts this postseason, he is 0-1 with a 3.72 ERA. Matz is scheduled to start Game 4 of the World Series on Saturday.
