The only World Series game I’ve ever been to was Game 3 of the 2000 Subway Series against the Yankees, which ended up being the only game the Mets won. I can’t wait to get back tonight, again sitting upstairs, in Section 505.

“Our fans are pretty tough,” manager Terry Collins said Thursday. “They’re tough. They’re strong and they’re tough. But I think the impact is going to be on us more than anything. I think that’s where our fan base is so good is that it inspires our guys. So, I’m looking at that.”

The Mets went 49-32 at Citi Field during the regular season, they are 3-1 at home during the playoffs.

“It will be nice to go our park, our house,” David Wright said after Wednesday’s loss. “I’m sure the fans are gonna be going crazy. The intensity and electricity in the stadium will help us.”

I expect the Royals to find a very raucous crowd, pumped up to will the Mets to a win. The only thing that could keep us down will be if Kansas City knocks around Noah Syndergaard for a few quick runs, in which case I think Citi Field will get real quiet, real quick. Otherwise, it’s going to be wild from start to finish.

“Coming back home is a big thing for us,” Syndergaard said Thursday. “Having the Mets faithful behind us and the greatest fans in baseball. Part of the reason our team has had so much success this year is being able to handle the resiliency and come together as a team, overcome and win some ballgames.”
