Niese is hopeful he’ll be back by Game 3

Mets LHP Jon Niese will travel to Ohio on Monday during the Mets’ off day to attend his grandmother’s wake (Oct. 19).

Niese will then attend his grandmother’s funeral at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday before driving to Chicago to join the Mets for Game 3 of the NLCS.

“I’m going to drive from the funeral to Chicago,” Niese said. “It’s probably a four-hour drive. Hopefully whenever I’m going to get there, I’ll go to the bullpen and join the team.”

Niese, who struck out the only batter he faced during the NLDS, came on in relief with two outs in the sixth inning in Game 2 of the NLCS on Sunday night and struck out Anthony Rizzo to end the frame.
