I love seeing these guys celebrate. It makes me happy, because I’m happy for them. I keep saying this because it keeps being true. Thanks to 11 years writing this blog, I’m fortunate enough to know some of these people personally, from players to executives to employees at Citi Field. I get to look behind the curtain and see how much they work and what they put into this, from the front office, to the players, to the media department, security, the reporters, broadcasters, the owners, and everyone in between who contributes to creating the environment that you and I love and celebrate every day, year after year. It’s a lot of work.
It’s a lot of work to root for them too. It’s not always easy. But, that’s the relationship. It’s what working in baseball and being a fan is all about. I love my work. I don’t get sprayed with champagne and I watch most games alone, writing. However, it’s moments like this, and knowing you and the team are smiling, knowing you are all peaceful and all on the same page, that makes me happy. That’s my reward. That’s my celebration. And watching the video in this post, seeing these guys act like this, seeing fans at McFadden’s and outside Citi Field scream out of joy, seeing online fans who may never meet in person be so happy together, it’s a an amazing and special thing. It’s a wonderful, nice, simple moment that, even though insignificant when compared to more serious aspects of life, makes us happy. And that’s what baseball is all about. So, have fun, everyone, cut loose, and enjoy this escape and celebration, because you’ve all earned it…
