Cespedes says he will be ready for Game 1 of World Series

Yoenis Cespedes says he feels a lot better and will be ready for Game 1 of the World Series on Tuesday after suffering an injury earlier this week.

Cespedes left Game 4 of the NLCS in the second inning with a sore shoulder and received a cortisone shot on Thursday.

He said he can’t pinpoint exactly when he sustained the injury or what caused it, acknowledging he did pushups in Chicago, which he doesn’t normally do, because there wasn’t a full gym available.

“I don’t think it’s gonna live at me and honestly if I really, truly didn’t feel 100 percent, I would not have a problem stepping down and saying I can’t play,” Cespedes said at a press conference Saturday. “I feel like I’ll be ready.

“Even if I’m feeling 100 percent out there, I would still just want to play,” he added. “I don’t like being a designated hitter. I don’t feel like I’m apart of the game like I truly contribute.”

Cespedes played golf before the NLCS and said playing golf didn’t have an impact on the injury. He said it helps him with his baseball swing and hand movement.

“I really enjoy it,” Cespedes said. “I just relax, I forget any problems I have when I’m out there. … I’ve only been playing for two years, but people who have played a lot longer have tell me that I’m pretty good for the amount of time I’ve been playing, so I’ll leave it at that.”
