Mets captain David Wright spoke to the media at a press conference on Saturday in advance of the World Series. Here are five things we learned:
.) While this is the first postseason for many players on the current roster, Wright said a lot of the veterans shared their playoff stories with some of the younger players. “Not necessarily to try and provide motivation, but let them know that’s our goal and that’s our end game,” Wright said.
.) The Royals’ resiliency will prove to be a challenge for the Mets. “They’re a competitive, fiery bunch, kind of like our guys,” Wright said. “It just seems like they never go away. It seems like they always find a way to win.”
.) Fifteen players went out to dinner together on Friday and watched the Royals beat the Blue Jays in Game 6 of the ALCS.
.) The fact Daniel Murphy has been able to continue his torrid postseason against top pitchers Clayton Kershaw, Zack Greinke, Jon Lester and Jake Arrieta makes Murphy’s feat “even more ridiculous.”
.) If “Saturday Night Live” was to ask Wright to host an episode, Wright said with a smile, “It’s kind of out of the comfort zone, but sometimes you’ve got to get out of your comfort zone. So it would definitely be a consideration.”
