Uribe takes batting practice, will travel to Kansas City

Infielder Juan Uribe took batting practice at the Mets’ mandatory workout on Saturday in hopes of re-joining the team for the World Series on Tuesday.

“He looks great in batting practice,” manager Terry Collins said.

Uribe, who’s hitting .219 with six home runs and 20 RBIs since joining the Mets in July, hasn’t played since Sept. 25 after suffering cartilage damage in his chest stemming from a diving play on Sept. 20.

He fielded grounders at Citi Field on Friday and will travel with the team to Kansas City, regardless if he is on the roster. Both the Mets and Royals must set their World Series rosters by 11 a.m. ET on Tuesday.

“We’re going to take him anyway,” Collins said. “He’s been to this dance before. And I think his presence in the clubhouse and on the bench would be huge.”
