Curtis Granderson drove in two runs in Game 1 of the NLCS on Saturday night.
Granderson hit an RBI single on an 0-2 pitch off John Lester that put the Mets up 2-1 in the fifth inning. Later in the game, Juan Lagares stole third and scored on Granderson’s sacrifice fly to left field.
This season, Granderson said he didn’t see as many lefties in the regular season as he’s used to, but now has seen a left-handed starter in four of the six games this postseason.
“The more at bats you get against left handers you just get a sense of seeing it and that definitely helps out,” he explained after the game. “At the same time, you’ve still got to find a way to put the ball in play and get a pitch you can handle.”
Granderson has driven in seven runs in six games this postseason. He has eight hits, two doubles, three walks and just one strike out over 24 plate appearances.

Granderson is locked in. Also, he has a great point about being exposed to lefties. And, frankly, Lester is not nearly as good and was not nearly as sharp as Clayton Kershaw, who the Mets faced two times in their previous five games. Better than that, Lester doesn’t sequence his pitches to left-handed batters, so Curtis – and the same can be said for Daniel Murphy – got to see a variety of random pitches in those two games. Lester was far more predictable, which may explain why they were each so aggressive Saturday night. In any case, Curtis has been terrific for a a couple of weeks. He hit roughly .350 the last week or so of the season, and he’s now batting .389 in the six games during the postseason. He’s been vital setting the tone every time he leads off a game or inning.
By the way, by far, Granderson has the best set of walk-up music on the team, regularly featuring Xplosive by Dr. Dre and So Fresh, So Clean by Outkast. Nice work, Curtis, keep rocking that Backspin, buddy, and keep on hitting…
