Tonight’s Pitching Matchup

Jacob deGrom: DeGrom won his first two career postseason starts in Game 1 and 5 of the NLDS against the Dodgers. He has 20 strikeouts this postseason, tied for third-most in a single postseason in team history. However, he has struggled against the Cubs this season. In two starts against Chicago, deGrom is 0-2 with a 6.10 ERA. DeGrom walked four batters and allowed four runs over five innings in his lone career start at Wrigley Field.

Kyle Hendricks: Hendricks threw six shutout innings in each of his last two starts of the regular season. In his first career postseason start, Hendricks allowed three solo home runs and was pulled in the fifth inning of Game 2 of the NLDS against St. Louis. Hendricks has allowed just one run in two career starts against the Mets — earning the win in both games.

Team Notes

Mets Notes: The Mets are 19-19 all-time on the road in the postseason, including 2-1 this year. New York was swept in a four-game series in Chicago earlier this season. Daniel Murphy’s five home runs this postseason are the most in team history for a single postseason and ties Mike Piazza for the career-record. Curtis Granderson is hitting .375 this postseason. Mets starting pitchers are 5-2 with a 2.74 ERA in the postseason. Their bullpen has not allowed a run in the last four games.

Cubs Notes: The Cubs bats have been quiet, recording only five hits in Games 1 and 2 of the series. Teams trailing a best-of-seven series 2-0 own a record of 42-34 in Game 3 all-time. Kyle Schwarber, whose Game 1 home run was his fourth of the postseason, is tied for the second most all-time by a rookie. Anthony Rizzo and Kris Bryant each hit a home run off deGrom in Wrigley Field this season.
