The Braves are listening to offers for 26-year-old SS Andrelton Simmons, while talking with at least the Padres, Dodgers and Angels, according to New York Post reporter Joel Sherman (Nov. 11, 2015).
Sherman says the Mets have yet to check in on Simmons. In July, after talking with Atlanta, they determined he was at an unreachable price tag (July 27, 2015).
Simmons, who won a Gold Glove at shortstop in 2013 and 2014, is guaranteed $53 million during the next five seasons. In 499 career games, Simmons is batting .256 with a .304 OBP, while averaging roughly five home runs, 20 doubles and 40 RBIs per season.
According to David O’Brien of the Atlanta Journal Constitution, in return for Simmons, the Braves expect to get back multiple young, impact pieces without significantly raising payroll.

Simmons would be the greatest gift Alderson could give to his pitching staff, who are desperate for an everyday, sure-handed shortstop. Simmons has yet to find his bat, but he’s young enough to think he can get better. But, even if he doesn’t, he brings Ozzie Smith-level, heads-up defense to the infield, which is currently lacking at Citi Field. The thing is, I’ve heard from other teams in the NL East, not just the Mets, that they’re reluctant to deal him in the division. My hunch is Atlanta would want at least Zack Wheeler and a few prospects from the Mets, which is a huge gamble since they need to face one another 19 times a season. The point is, I love the idea of acquiring Simmons. However, if the Mets go that route, I think it will need to come from a different team…
