Braves open to anything, including a trade for OF Cameron Maybin

The Braves are shopping everyone on their roster, including 28-year-old OF Cameron Maybin, according to FOXSports.com’s Ken Rosenthal (Nov. 14, 2015). However, before they go that route, they may first try to deal Michael Bourne or Nick Swisher (Nov. 11, 2015).

The right-handed hitting Maybin hit .267 with a .327 OBP, 10 HR, 65 RBI and .370 slugging percentage in 141 games in 2015, during which he hit .276 against right-handed pitching.

He will earn $8 million next season, with a $9 million option for 2017 or a $1 million buyout.

“For a team that needs an outfielder, but has the flexibility to move Maybin to a corner or split his time in center with a better glove, he could be pretty good value,” according to ESPN.com’s Keith Law, who was once a scout and executive for the Blue Jays (Nov. 10, 2015).

According to multiple reports, the Mets may be in the market for a center field, either to take over full time or platoon with Juan Lagares.

Maybin is the kind of lateral move the Mets should definitely avoid this offseason. His “good” year in Atlanta amounted to a sub-.700 OPS and as a right-handed bat, he’s not a candidate to platoon with righty Lagares. He walks a little, but has no power and his defense has been up-and-down (mostly down). The Mets need a better hitter in center than Lagares, but Maybin is not that guy.
