Syndergaard finishes fourth in NL Rookie of the Year voting

Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard finished fourth in the National League Rookie of the Year voting, the league announced Monday.

Syndergaard made his debut in May and finished the regular season with 9-7 with a 3.24 ERA and 166 strikeouts in 150 innings.

Syndergaard, 23, received three second-place votes and seven third-place votes, finishing with 16 points. The Cubs’ Kris Bryant unanimously received all 30 first-place votes. The Giants’ Matt Duffy finished in second place with 70 points and the Pirates’ Jung Ho Kang finished third.

Mets outfielder Michael Conforto recorded 194 plate appearances this season, so he will not be eligible for the 2016 Rookie of the Year competition. Infielder Dilson Herrera eclipsed 169 career plate appearances this season, so he will also not be eligible for the 2016 Rookie of the Year award.
