Marlins manager Don Mattingly credited the Mets rotation for leading them to the World Series in 2015 and said starting pitching is New York’s biggest strength (Nov. 13).
“Great teams are built on the mound,” Mattingly said. “You can talk about offense, whatever, but they got good, young starting pitching that is going to be controllable and in house for a while.”
The Mets rotation boasted the fourth-best ERA in the majors this past season. Mattingly takes over a Marlins staff that had just the 18th ERA in baseball last year. However, he said he looks forward to a full season of Jose Fernandez.
“They are going to be a handful,” Mattingly reitterated d of the Mets. “If those guys stay healthy, they are going to be tough. It’s going to be fun to be in the division knowing you have to play really well to be able to hang in there with them.”
