Harvey, Mets top Cubs in Game 1

Matt Harvey went 7 2/3 strong innings and Daniel Murphy hit the first of two homers off Jon Lester as the Mets defeated the Cubs 4-2 Saturday in Game 1 of the NL Championship Series Saturday at Citi Field.

Harvey allowed four hits and two runs, striking out nine with two walks on 97 pitches.

He left in the eighth after allowing a monstrous solo homer to Kyle Schwarber. Jeurys Familia came in to earn a four-out save two days after closing out the NLDS against Los Angeles.

Curtis Granderson had two RBI, one in the fifth on a single and the other a sac fly in the seventh.

Travis d’Arnaud homered into the apple in center in the sixth.

Lester went 6 1/3 innings, allowing four runs on eight hits.

Murphy, who homered for the third straight game to tie Donn Clendennon for the Mets postseason record, closed out the win with a diving stop on Tommy La Stella.

Noah Syndergaard (9-7, 3.24) faces Cy Young candidate Jake Arrietta (22-6, 1.77) in Game 2 Sunday at Citi Field (8:07 p.m., TBS).
