1) Go to a sold-out game: Body heat is key, so pack yourself in like 44,000 fleece-coated sardines.
2) Absorb warmth from the blistering Daniel Murphy: A first-inning home run will get the blood pumping and you’ll jump to your feet with each successive at bat. “MVP! MVP!” is a great chant for warming the chest and lungs.
3) Rack up the Ks: Spinning the rally towel for two strikes keeps you active and heats up your arms and core. Watch a pitcher like Noah Syndergaard have his way with an aggressive Cubs offense, striking out nine batters. With the kind of swing-and-miss stuff he shows every night, you’ll spend a lot of time on your feet.
4) Jump out ahead: Get your blood pumping by watching the Mets offense get to Jake Arrieta, an ace notable for his first-inning domination. Three consecutive hits, punctuated by a Murphy home run (see tip #2), are a great way to keep the adrenaline pumping.
5) Bring in the relief corps: There’s nothing like the Mets bullpen to get your heart racing, so 3 1/3 innings of them is a guaranteed way to keep you jittery and tense. But make sure they’re effective, since a blown lead will zap valuable energy.
6) Scorch the basepaths: You won’t expect a team that ranked last in the NL in stolen bases to suddenly start swiping bases right and left in the playoffs, but whatever has gotten into them will have you on the edge of your seat with every baserunner.
