World Series ticket prices are at an all-time high for Mets-Royals

According to StubHub, prior to this postseason, Game 6 of the 2013 World Series between the Red Sox and Cardinals at Fenway Park is the only game since the 2012 playoffs to have an average sold price of more than $1,000.

Yet, according to TiqIQ, the average price for a 2015 World Series game is $1,539, making it the most expensive series ever tracked.

The current average price for this series at Citi Field is $1,630, compared to $1,460 in Kansas City.

I guess the Mets are popular again, huh? It’s amazing, isn’t it? MLB sets the ticket prices, not the teams. So I assume they must be thrilled having the Mets and their thirsty fanbase, in New York, in the World Series. I can only imagine how many tickets they had to hold back for employees, players, coaches, friends, clients, vendors, media, etc.

In the end, I wonder how many are actually left to be purchased? This is probably why I’m getting dozens of emails and text messages from friends, family and readers I haven’t heard from in years asking if I have tickets, or know anyone selling tickets, because everyone wants go to a game. I wish I could help, but I can’t. The only tickets I know of are the three my friends and I got in a strip we committed to at the start of the postseason. It wasn’t cheap, but I’m glad we did it…

Frankly, it’s hard to believe this is happening. I can remember sitting in Citi Field just a few years ago with it totally empty in September, with Kelly Shoppach, Mike Baxter and Andres Torres in the lineup. And yet here we are, four days away from a sold-out, pumped up, jam-packed Citi Field hosting its first World Series. Incredible…
